Performance
Powering the 2021 Ford Expedition is a 375-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, hitched to a 10-speed automatic transmission and accompanied by a rear-wheel-drive system. (On the Platinum, the output is tuned to 400 horsepower.) With the engine placed in the front, the power transferred to the rear wheels creates a nice front-to-rear weight distribution balance around Canfield. This is in addition to ample acceleration and smooth shifts due to the V6 and 10-speed gearbox, respectively.
The Expedition produces up to 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway—that is, if you stick with the standard rear-wheel drivetrain. These are some of the best figures in the full-size However, there’s the option of a four-wheel drivetrain, which makes the Expedition perform better on less-than-ideal terrain: from slippery surfaces to rocky trails. The SUV can tow up to 9,300 pounds when properly configured.
Interior
The 2021 Ford Expedition is a three-row vehicle that can seat up to eight people around Canfield. However, there’s the option of swapping the bench-style seat in the second row with a pair of captain’s seats to reduce maximum occupancy to seven. The front includes eight-way power on the driver’s seat, which faces a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The Limited trim level gains leather seat trim, front-seat 10-way power adjustability, and front- and second-row heating. The King Ranch brings the Expedition further into luxury territory with enhancements such as Del Rio perforated-leather upholstery and front-seat ventilation. The range-topping Platinum stands out with its multi-contour front seats and quilted genuine leather upholstery.
Comfort & Features
Remote keyless entry enables access to the 2021 Ford Expedition by pressing the corresponding key fob button. A push-button next to the steering wheel enables the engine to start without an ignition key. Climate controls are on the driver and front passenger sides to adjust heating and cooling, and the rearview mirror is joined by auto-dimming ability and a garage-door opener.
For infotainment around Canfield, the Expedition uses the SYNC 3 multimedia system, which combines a six-speaker AM/FM stereo system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio, four USB ports, and an eight-inch touchscreen.
The Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum trims get enhancements like remote start, proximity keyless entry, second-row climate control, wireless device charging, HD Radio, and a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Safety
Driver assistance on the 2021 Ford Expedition is provided by the robust Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of technologies, which combine safety features such as a rearview camera with rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking. Six airbags are present for restraint and cushioning if there’s a crash, with a post-crash SOS emergency system for calling on assistance. Ford adds front parking sensors and a blind-spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert and trailer tow monitoring if you go with the Limited model or higher.
Only the Platinum trim comes with a surround-view camera (in place of the rearview one), adaptive cruise control, an enhanced active park assist system (which includes parallel parking, park-out assist, and reverse perpendicular parking), and a lane-keeping system.
